Spring Maple Care

April

  • Apply for your Maple Tree Rebate from Maple Leaves Forever (Spring application deadline is May 15 – but you will get better selection if you apply and order your trees early!)
  • take care to properly transport and deliver your Native Maples prior to planting
  • new planting – plant when soil conditions are favourable
  • check for Spongy Moth (formerly known as Gypsy Moth) egg masses! Egg masses can be destroyed until the end of April
  • water deeply and thoroughly; add mulch and clear surrounding weeds
  • stake newly planted trees, if necessary; remove stakes from trees that have been staked for two or more years.
  • prepare a plan for watering the trees through the growing season

Maple Leaves Forever is pleased to provide a complete seasonal guide to maple tree planting and ongoing care!

Our Impact

Over the past two decades, Maple Leaves Forever has supported the planting of over 134,800 Native Canadian Maple trees!

That’s equivalent to 1,241 km (771 miles) of maple-lined Ontario roadside, more than the driving distance from Huntsville to Thunder Bay!

MLF also sponsors the following environmental & tree planting initiatives: Ontario Envirothon, One Bench One Tree, Grand Trees Climate Change Solutions and Highway of Heroes Tribute.
