Celebrate National Tree Day by planting a Native Canadian tree!

Canada’s National Tree Day, Wednesday, September 24th, is a great time to celebrate the benefits of native trees, and to plant them! Planting native trees contributes to our urban and rural tree canopy, providing shade cover and all the other benefits of native trees.

When selecting a native species, we encourage Canadians to purchase a genuine Native Canadian maple tree – our Canadian arboreal emblem.

Urban residents can plant a native tree in your front or back yard. Rural residents should consider planting a row of maples along your roadside, laneway or property line. A row of native trees in rural areas has the benefit of providing a wind barrier, reduces soil erosion, provides shade and cooling and a habitat for a wide variety of birds, insects and small mammals over time.
