Maple Leaves Forever advisor Carl Mansfield and founder Ken Jewett met recently with City of Ottawa Forestry Services Staff: Manager David Barkley, Section Manager Tracey Schwets  and Landscape Architect Kendra Labrosse.

It was a very positive meeting. The discussion focused on the City of Ottawa  purchasing and planting of Native Canadian Maples. They now state on their 2015 tenders for maple trees purchase forms – “Nurseries submitting bids must be on the list of nurseries recognized by Maple Leaves Forever.” IE: Those nurseries who sell certified Native Canadian maple trees.

We expressed our enthusiastic support for this move. Equally important to us was the discussion that followed – they all personally are keen on the Native Maple concept.

At the end of the meeting the City of Ottawa was presented with a cheque for $19,000 – the MLF subsidy for Maples acquired in 2014.
