Happy Winter! It came early in central Ontario with record snowfalls – a good reminder for those that have planted native maple to follow these simple winter tree care tips! This year, Maple Leaves Forever (MLF) celebrates 25 years as a charitable foundation supporting and advocating for the planting of Native Canadian Maple Trees. To commemorate this milestone, our MLF team joined with West & Social to develop this beautiful new video describing and showcasing our work. We hope you enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it, and that you’ll consider supporting our mission!
In September, our founder Ken Jewett was invited to speak at the Conservation Ontario (CA) Council Partner Day about Maple Leaves Forever’s mandate. It happened to occur on Ken’s 94th birthday and Council members kindly joined in a resounding “Happy Birthday” for him! It was also wonderful to see the Council members recognize the work of MLF.

Maple Leaves Forever has been busy encouraging municipalities and various tree planting partners to commit to plant only Native Canadian Maples when a maple is called for in a planting plan. We hope to encourage as many Conservation Authorities as possible to join the MLF Community Honour Roll by committing to plant only native maples. So far, Nottawasaga Valley CA and Kettle Creek CA have joined, and we are hoping for many more in the coming months.
If you are a planting partner and will commit to planting only native maples when a plan calls for a maple, you can join our Honour Roll! Please contact us at info@mapleleavesforever.ca!
Myself and Mary Bella, our Marketing Manager will be attending the Landscape Ontario Congress in January and hope to connect with some of our nursery partners there. And speaking of nursery partners, I would like to give a shout out to our new nursery partner, JCO Treefarms LTD in Chatsworth. You can read more about them here.
I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome our new Board member, Scott Cameron. He is a Certified Public Accountant and is well versed in the world of planting trees as the Director of Finance and Administration at Forests Canada (formerly Forests Ontario).
We wish you all the best for good health and good growing conditions for trees in 2025!
