Over the last 30 years, Clearview Nursery has built a reputation for producing high-quality plant material and landscape supplies, steadily evolving to meet the needs of both wholesale and retail clients across the Southern Georgian Bay region. Established in 1996 by Kevin and Gail Elwood, the nursery began with the planting of its first stock in 1997. What started as a young family venture soon became a true multigenerational operation, with their sons contributing in the early years and later bringing formal training and fresh perspective to the business.

Rooted in a background in landscape construction, the Elwoods were motivated by a lack of availability and consistency in large-caliper trees. This led them to acquire and rehabilitate a 100-acre farm near Stayner in Clearview Township—transforming a neglected property into a thriving nursery operation. Over time, the business expanded to include multiple growing sites, increased production capacity, and a broader range of plant material, all supported by a dedicated, long-standing team.

Operating in a colder, snowbelt climate, Clearview Nursery specializes in hardy trees suited to the region’s conditions and adaptable to a variety of soils. A strong emphasis is placed on native species, reflecting a commitment to preserving Ontario’s natural landscape. This focus is particularly evident in their production of native maples, including Acer rubrumAcer saccharumAcer saccharinum, and Acer × freemanii, grown in optimal transplant sizes for long-term success.

Today, Clearview Nursery continues to work closely with clients seeking to establish or restore landscapes with a sense of heritage and authenticity—supplying resilient, well-matched native trees that contribute to the longevity and character of the land.

One of the things that makes us unique in the industry is that very few nursery growers in Ontario are situated in the Great Lakes Region near the northern region of the Niagara Escarpment, which is dominated by hardwood forests and home to the native Sugar Bush.  We grow Sugar Maples in our fields alongside our own Sugar Bush on the home farm.
