We hope you are managing this roller coaster transition from winter to spring! While this is somewhat normal for this time of year – here in Central Ontario, we have seen lows of -20oC and highs of +18oC within days of each other! On top of that, a significant ice storm event this past weekend affected a region of southern Ontario stretching from Muskoka, Orillia and Barrie to north of Kingston. I truly hope those who experienced property damage can recover quickly!
On March 15th, I participated in the Museum of Ontario Archaeology’s Maple Heritage Festival, in London Ontario. Outreach and creating awareness about native Canadian Maples is an important role for Maple Leaves Forever and we were excited to be invited!

The Museum welcomed over 200 guests and it made for a really memorable day together. I shared the work of Maple Leaves Forever and encouraged attendees to plant a native maple when they are considering planting a maple tree. The organizers also raffled off 3 native sugar maples from Silver Creek Nursery to visitors at the event! In addition, there were vendors selling all things ‘maple’, such as butter tarts, and of course maple syrup. It was truly a “made in Canada” event.
Finally, Mary Lou Smoke, her family & Russ Howe gave a moving tree blessing for a native sugar maple tree on the property. We are blessed in Canada to be rich in many natural treasures such as native maple trees. I hope you will find time to visit a maple syrup operation this spring and enjoy one of nature’s sweetest gifts.
